The New Church

We are grateful for any donation you could make towards realising our dream to restore this church and dedicate it to our local patron saints, Cuthbert of Lindisfarne, the Wonderworker, and Bede of Jarrow, the Venerable.

In 2018 we acquired a derelict church that was initially built and used as a mortuary chapel by the Anglican Parish of St Nicholas, Durham. The sorry state in which the church was at the time required substantial renovation, including structural. Works started in November 2019 and are ongoing, but since August 2023 we use it as our permanent home. So far we completed the rebuilding of the Vestry, as well as a new extension (that houses the toilet block) at the back, the roof was repaired and the floor inside insulated and installed. Afterwards, the interior was fully refurbished, a new ceiling and mezzanine floor was added, new windows and doors and doors installed, electricity supply restored, amongst other things. The first and second phases of works have been funded by grants from the Romanian Government (through the State Secretariat for Religious Affairs) and the generosity of our donors. The next phase, which is due to start soon will see the footpath resurfaced and essential utilities introduced. We are appealing to all who can and wish to support this project in order to raise the funds necessary to continue works.

We urge all of you to pray for this project, and for the Orthodox parish in this city.
